Since its founding in 2007, the University of Teacher Education Styria (Pädagogische Hochschule Steiermark, PHSt), has put a focus on languages and interculturality, through coordinating regional and national offers and international activities in three main areas:

IN-SERVICE TEACHER TRAINING
RESEARCH
These offers are oriented towards major key competences. They seek to support (early) language learning, intercultural learning, plurilingualism, innovative methodologies and didactics in order to achieve individualisation and differentiation. In pre-service teacher training, for example, the PHSt offers in all study programmes the compulsory module “Heterogeneity in schools and society with a particular emphasis on intercultural and interreligious aspects”.
The PHSt also promotes the implementation of European developments in the field of language learning - for instance the CEFR, the European Language Portfolio, national language standards and the LEPP process.
